PROFESSIONAL PROFILE:
Elizabeth Barnhard is a senior patent attorney specializing in pharmaceutical and biotechnology matters. During her fifteen-year career at Wyeth/Pfizer, she led multi-disciplinary patent teams servicing several therapeutic and research areas. Among other things, she developed, implemented and oversaw comprehensive global patent portfolios covering all aspects of potential product candidates including biologics, immunoconjugates, and small molecules. Ms. Barnhard also managed complex licensed-in patent portfolios for several major research and development alliances in oncology, neurosciences and infectious diseases, performed transactional and licensing work, and conducted patentability, freedom-to-operate, product and manufacturing patent clearances.
Ms. Barnhard is intimately familiar with U.S. Patent and Trademark Office policies and procedures and their impacts on clients. For example, when Wyeth decided to submit comments on major rulemaking changes to long established patent procedures, Ms. Barnhard co-authored Wyeth’s comments. She also presented to the American Intellectual Property Law Association on best legal and administrative practices to address major changes caused by the American Inventors Protection Act of 1999.
Before her corporate career, Ms. Barnhard acquired extensive legal experience at the law firm Bryan Cave, where she was responsible for patent preparation and prosecution in the biotechnology, pharmaceutical, chemical, chemical engineering and mechanical arts. She was also involved in all phases of litigation and appeals of patent, trademark, copyright and unfair competition actions in federal and state courts, and Section 337 proceedings before the U.S. International Trade Commission. Prior to Bryan Cave, she was an attorney at the Abelman Frayne & Schwab law firm, where she also was involved in all phases of litigation and appeals of patent, trademark, copyright, and unfair competition actions.
