PROFESSIONAL PROFILE:

KARIN SEGALL joins Leason Ellis with a long history of experience in the field of trademark law and related areas. She regularly counsels clients, prosecutes trademark and copyright applications, and handles contested intellectual property disputes. She has opined on the availability and strength of thousands of trademarks, helping clients of all sizes to select and build valuable brands. She has represented clients in a wide range of industries including publishing, fashion, telecommunications, pharmaceuticals, consumer products, and finance.

Ms. Segall's depth of experience includes developing and executing enforcement strategies protecting trademarks in both the United States and abroad. She also regularly litigates before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board, where she recently achieved victories in Cake Divas v. Charmaine Jones, Opp. No. 9117301 (TTAB 2011) (successfully defended opposition and obtained registration for client by prevailing in priority dispute after a full trial); In re ICE Futures U.S., Inc., 85 USPQ2d 1664 (TTAB 2008) (successful appeal on descriptiveness issue and whether use of mark on Future's contracts functioned as use for commodity exchange services).

Ms. Segall is an adjunct professor at Pace Law School, where she teaches a course on Trademark Practice and Procedure. She has authored various articles on trademark issues and has been a frequent speaker before attorneys and others concerning trademark matters. She is a regular contributor on current issues to the World Trademark Report and has been a speaker and a panelist at events sponsored by the International Trademark Association, the Practicing Law Institute, the American Bar Association, the New York State Bar Association, and the Association of the Bar of the City of New York.

Ms. Segall comes to us from the firm of Foley & Lardner LLP, where she was formerly a partner. Previously, she was a partner at the intellectual property boutique firm of Darby & Darby P.C., where she practiced trademark law for over ten years.
