To file a claim to copyright in your work, the Copyright Office
recommends using its online system. This page discusses alternative
registration methods.
Online Filing System
File a copyright registration for your work through the Copyright
Office online system. The advantages include lower filing fee of $35
for a basic claim, fastest processing time, online status tracking,
secure payment by credit or debit card, electronic check, or Copyright
Office deposit account, and the ability to upload certain categories
of deposits directly into eCO as electronic files.
Recordation of Transfers
Documents pertaining to a copyright, including documents that transfer
copyright ownership, may by recorded in the Copyright Office. This page
includes links to publications that provide information on recordation
of transfer and other documents with the U.S. Copyright Office.
