MATT FRISBEE PARTICIPATES IN INTA MEETING WITH USPTO OFFICIALS

Posted on 13 May 2020

In early March, Matthew Frisbee and two other representatives of the International Trademark Association met with Trademark Commissioner David Gooder and several other high-ranking officials of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office to discuss concerns over the USPTO’s new requirement that all trademark applications and registrations must include an e-mail address for the trademark owner. The meeting was prompted by a concern that the owner e-mail addresses would be visible to the public on part of the USPTO’s online database, which would lead to fraudulent solicitations. Following a productive meeting, the USPTO announced in late April that the owner e-mail addresses will be masked in the online database, much to the relief of the trademark community. More information can be found in a recent INTA Bulletin article written by Matt at https://www.inta.org/INTABulletin/Pages/Trademark_Office_Practices_Committee_Update_7508.aspx?mkt_tok=eyJpIjoiTkRZMk1EWXpOMkpqWmpkbSIsInQiOiI0UVpZeFh2UkhwejV0NTdtM2hDRmRvZmNBQmlOcHlCaWlZaHpaazN1Zm9vZzJXd0RLNmd0RTVNUVJha0tVOVU4akd6Ums2bWJaendhRWV3Z1BtK3FaRjJlNTFyQ1JjMGZwWUFTYjVyQ05LRXc5MXlCeWtxMmlpZ0hRM1Z0Tll5MCJ9.
